Waveney District Council’s popular programme of free children’s activities is returning to Lowestoft for a fifth consecutive summer.

The summer activities, designed for children aged between nine and sixteen, are organised by the Council’s Active Communities Team and will run during the school summer holidays.

Beginning on Tuesday 25 July, the activities will take place each Tuesday and Thursday on Lowestoft’s award-winning South Beach. Running until Thursday 24 August, activities will include boxing, tag rugby, dodgeball, cricket, rounders, futsal and giant volleyball. The climbing wall will be at Clifton Road car park on Thursday 17 August.

Cllr Mary Rudd, Cabinet Member for Community Health and Safety said:

“Our free summer activities are always popular and offer local children the chance to get outside, be active and stay occupied over the summer holidays. Last year’s Olympic-themed activities were our most successful to date and we hope that this year’s activities are just as popular.”

Sign in will be at 12.30pm each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the holidays at Beach Hut 121, south of Claremont Pier. Beach activities commence at 1pm.

All events are offered on a ‘first come first served’ basis and whilst booking is not required for any of the activities, parental consent must be given. Consent forms will be available online from the Active Communities Facebook page.

The summer activities are organised by the Active Communities Team and delivered by Positive Futures (Catch 22).

Michael Chaplin, Project Co-ordinator for Positive Futures (Catch 22) said:

“The free summer beach activities allow young people the chance to mix with new peers, try new sports and stay active. The coaches work with attendees to boost confidence, communication and team work skills whilst most importantly keep the activities fun and keeping smiles on young people’s faces.”

Anyone wishing to sponsor or support the activities in any way should contact Waveney’s Active Communities Team on 01502 523111 or asbu@eastsuffolk.gov.uk
