At Red Oak Primary School, our mission is to work alongside our community to raise aspirations and enable every child to fulfil their potential.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils learn more, remember more and become more. Through a broad, ambitious and inclusive curriculum, we provide the knowledge, skills and experiences that children need to succeed both now and in the future.

We believe that learning matters most when knowledge is remembered and built upon over time. Therefore, our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that pupils develop secure knowledge and understanding across all subjects, enabling them to make connections and apply their learning with confidence.

Our curriculum reflects our school motto, "Where Learning is Living", by bringing learning to life through meaningful experiences, rich opportunities and high expectations for every child.

How Our Curriculum Is Designed

Our curriculum begins in the Early Years, where children learn through a carefully planned balance of direct teaching, exploration and play. From Year 1 to Year 6, learning is built upon through the National Curriculum and our wider enrichment offer.

Across all subjects, learning is planned and sequenced to ensure that pupils:

Build new knowledge on what they already know.

Revisit important concepts regularly to strengthen long-term memory.

Develop subject-specific vocabulary and understanding.

Apply their learning in different contexts.

Gain increasing confidence and independence.

Reading, language and communication are at the heart of our curriculum. Pupils develop early reading through a systematic phonics programme before moving on to whole-class reading and high-quality texts that broaden their knowledge of the world.

Mathematics is taught through carefully structured teaching that develops fluency, reasoning and problem-solving. Pupils secure key mathematical concepts before moving on to more complex learning.

Our wider curriculum enables pupils to develop disciplinary knowledge within subjects such as history, geography, science, art, design technology, computing, music, physical education, religious education and languages. Learning is planned so that important knowledge and concepts develop progressively across each stage of the school.

Enrichment and Personal Development

We believe education extends beyond the classroom.

Pupils benefit from a range of educational visits, visitors, performances, sporting opportunities and cultural experiences that enhance and deepen curriculum learning.

How We Know the Curriculum Is Successful

We regularly evaluate the effectiveness of our curriculum through:

Success is demonstrated when pupils can confidently recall, explain and apply what they have learned over time.

By the end of Year 6, children leave Red Oak with the knowledge, skills, character and experiences needed to thrive in secondary education and beyond.
